So Hum.

I came across this phrase while studying Buddhism. Several years ago I declared I was a Buddhist. Although, at the time, I don't think I fully understood what Buddhism stood for. At the time, I was just into "declaring" things. (Ah, your 20s...) I have a much better understanding now and although I would never consider myself passionately religious, Buddhist principles are definitely the most aligned with what I think and feel. So Hum is such a huge part of that.

So Hum is Sanskrit for "I am that." It's a phrased used for some meditation practices. If you say the phrase out-loud it sounds very much like the breath.

Go ahead, try it!

So Hum.

So Hum.

It's actually quite relaxing and lovely to do every few times during the day.

The idea "I am that." is a good reminder for me about who I am and if what I'm doing is staying true to the very essence of it all.

I've spent a lot of my life trying to figure out who I am, what I believe in and how I want to spend my time. I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I think that in my 80s I'll probably still be trying to figure "it" out. Hopefully to a lesser degree.

When I started my business, I did so out of necessity. I needed an income. I couldn't do my old job anymore. I had to forge a new way. I began working with digital marketing because

1. It was something I was decent at.

2. It was something I could do from home.

3. Someone would pay me to do it.

I spent a lot of time trying to decide whether digital marketing was my passion. Social media? Facebook? Website, HTML, blahdity blahdity blah. Are these things passionate to people?

But then it hit me. My passion wasn't the things I was doing, it was how I was doing it. it was So Hum.

Today, I try to approach everything I do with So Hum in mind. My SoHumLife - living life in a a true-to-myself way.

So Hum. What is it, anyway??
